Queensberry Earncraig Hill And Gana Hill From Mitchellslacks. Really interesting route ticking off the last 3 hills in the Lowther Hills range. The route starts from near Ae forest.
The Ettrick Horseshoe lies in one of the most remote parts of the Scottish Borders at the very end off the Ettrick Valley.
Learning to navigate with a Contours Only map. Using Harvey maps with all features removed apart from the contour lines and grid squares. It makes for some interesting navigation!
A short walk up to the VOR navigation beacon on top of Broad Law. Micro–navigation practice (and some mistakes) on the way. Good practice.
The Lowther Hills loop. Another long day in the hills along the Lowther ridge. The ridge sits West of the A702 just East of Sanquhar. With stunning views. Loads of interesting radar & radio masts. Was pretty windy & cold but what a lovely route.
The Culter Fell Loop.
A 24km loop around Culter Fell in the Lanarkshire / Borders boundary hills taking in two Graham’s & two Donalds. It’s a long route, but stunning and well worth a day out.
Hart fell horsehoe. A stunning ridge walk in the Moffat Hills with some of the finest views and perhaps the airiest walk in the Scottish Borders.
A lovely circular route in the Moffat hills from the Cicerone Walking in the Scottish Borders book. Starting at Selcoth up to Croft Head, along the Southern Upland Way and up Capel Fell
A stunning 2 day exped on the Cairngorm plateau taking in 6 of the over 4000m high Munros with a wild camp next to a very noisy River Dee near Corrour Bothy in the Lairig Ghru.
